Schindler, Alexander M.

(1925– ) rabbi, organization executive; born in Munich, Germany. He came to the U.S.A. in 1937. A graduate of the City College of New York, he was ordained at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati. He served in the U.S. Army in the 10th Mountain Division in World War II. He was associate rabbi at Temple Emmanuel in Worcester, Mass., from 1959–63. In 1973 he was named president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. From 1976–78 he was president of the Conference of Major Jewish Organizations.
