Vice-Admiral Drozd

 

(before Feb. 13, 1943, theStoikii), the guards destroyer of the Baltic Fleet (awarded the Order of the Red Banner). In 1941-42, during the Great Patriotic War, this vessel supported ground troops with artillery fire, laid mines, and took part in the evacuation of the garrison on the Khanko Peninsula and in the defense of Leningrad. On Apr. 3, 1942, for courage and bravery it received the title of guards and was renamed in honor of the deceased squadron commander of the Baltic Fleet, V. P. Drozd. After the war it was retired from service, but its name and guards title were transferred to an antisubmarine ship of the Northern Fleet (awarded the Order of the Red Banner).
