Balance of Indebtedness

Balance of Indebtedness

A summary of all the assets and liabilities held by a sovereign entity. That is, a balance of indebtedness states all the assets a country owns (examples include national art, taxes not yet spent, and stock in nationalized corporations) and all liabilities (including accounts payable to government workers, unpaid entitlement spending, and especially the national debt). One may consider the balance of indebtedness as the balance sheet for a country. See also: Investment Position.
