释义 | Schaller, George B.Schaller, George B. (Beals)(1933– ) mammalogist; born in Berlin, Germany. He was brought to the U.S.A. (Missouri) as a teenager. After working as a research associate at Johns Hopkins (1963–66), he became a research zoologist at the New York Zoological Society (Bronx Zoo) (1966), and was the director of its international conservation program from 1979 to 1988. He concurrently served as adjunct associate professor at Rockefeller University (1966). He wrote highly acclaimed books on African and Asian mammals based on his own pioneering studies supported by long-term observations of species in their natural habitats. In 1973 he won the National Book Award for The Serengeti Lion: A Study of Predator-Prey Relations, and was awarded the 1980 World Wildlife Fund Gold Medal for his contributions to the understanding and conservation of endangered species. |
