balanced incomplete block design[¦bal·ənst ‚iŋ·kəm‚plēt ′bläk di‚zīn] (mathematics) For positive integers b, ν, r, k, and λ, an arrangement of ν elements into b subsets or blocks so that each block contains exactly k distinct elements, each element occurs in r blocks, and every combination of two elements occurs together in exactly λ blocks.
