单词 | retinoids |
释义 | retinoidsret·i·noids(ret'i-noydz),ret·i·noids(ret'i-noydz)retinoidsA class of compounds containing 20 carbon atoms and related to RETINAL and vitamin A. They include retinol, TRETINOIN, isotretinoin, etretinate, acitretin and arotinoid. Retinoids bind to cell nuclear retinoid receptors and the latter bind to DNA. The effect of the retinoids is to promote transcription of DNA in much the same way as do steroids and thyroid hormone. They have a wide range of biological actions and have been found useful in ACNE, certain skin cancers, PSORIASIS, skin ageing and other skin disorders. Retinoids taken in the first three weeks of pregnancy are liable to cause abortion or serious fetal defects. For this reason the use of systemic retinoids in women is strictly controlled.Retinoidsret·i·noids(ret'i-noydz) |
