Vallois, Henri

Born Apr. 11, 1889, in Nancy. French anthropologist and anatomist.

Vallois’s main works deal with variations in the structure of various human organs and with human fossils. He devoted several works to substantiating the idea of the monophyletic origin of mankind from a single species of fossil anthropoid apes, which was also defended by Soviet anthropologists. His main publications include “How Many Roots Does Mankind Have?” (1927), “Anatomical Proof of the Monophyletic Origin of Man” (1929), “The Life Span of Human Fossils” (1937), “Human Races” (1944), “Paleontology and the Origin of Man” (1950), and “Human Fossils” (5th ed., 1955, with M. Boule).
