[′skad·ər ‚präp·ə‚gā·shən] (electromagnetism) Transmission of radio waves far beyond line-of-sight distances by using high power and a large transmitting antenna to beam the signal upward into the atmosphere and by using a similar large receiving antenna to pick up the small portion of the signal that is scattered by the atmosphere. Also known as beyond-the-horizon communication; forward-scatter propagation; over-the-horizon propagation.
