Scattering Coefficient of a Medium

in optics, the reciprocal of the distance at which a radiation flux in the form of a parallel pencil of rays is attenuated by scattering in the medium by a factor of 10 (the decimal scattering coefficient) or e (the Napierian scattering index). In the general case, the scattering coefficient depends significantly on the wavelength λ (frequency v) of the scattered optical radiation. Its value for the limiting case of a unique v is called the monochromatic scattering coefficient.
