Azure-Winged Magpie
Azure-Winged Magpie
(Cyanopica cyana), a bird of the family Corvidae, order Passeriformes. Its body length is about 35 cm, and the tail is long. The back is smoke-gray, the wings and tail bluish, the top of the head black. Its habitat is divided: the azure-winged magpie is found in southwestern Europe (in the Iberian Peninsula) and in the eastern part of Asia (from Transbaikalia and northeastern Mongolia to Primor’e and in Japan and China). It nests in small colonies, building its nest on bushes and in trees and at times in semidestroyed cavities, near water. In contrast to the nests of the common magpie, its nest does not have a roof. There are five to seven, sometimes up to nine, eggs in a clutch. The azure-winged magpie feeds on insects, seeds, and berries.
