Pituitrin a hormonal preparation that contains the pituitary hormones oxytocin and vasopressin. Pituitrin is an aqueous extract from the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland of slaughtered cattle. It is injected as a solution, either subcutaneously or intramuscularly, and is used, for example, with postpartum hemorrhages, diabetes insipidus, and when there is a lull in uterine contraction during childbirth. |
