(RICE) (rest īs kŏm-presh'ŭn el'ĕ-vā'shŭn rīs) Mnemonic acronym for a common noninvasive way to treat acute inflammation, especially in relation to orthopedic soft-tissue injury. The affected area should be rested, ice applied, compression via support of some type (elastic bandage, laced boot), and elevation to or above heart level.
