Vibration Processing
Vibration Processing
a method of mechanical or chemical-mechanical processing of parts and blanks involving smoothing of microscopic irregularities and removing particles of material from the work surface by an abrasive medium that is vibrated (in the frequency range of 10 megahertz to 10 kilohertz) by the action of a chamber containing the workpieces and the processing medium. The processing takes place in a dry medium or in a solution, which may contain various chemical additives.
Vibration processing is used to clean castings, to remove scales and the products of corrosion from the surface of blanks and parts, to remove burrs and round off sharp edges, to eliminate flash from castings and stamped and pressed parts, to improve the grade of surface finish (vibration grinding), and to prepare surfaces for galvanizing and painting, decorative polishing, and other types of finishing. Vibration processing also equalizes the stresses in the surface layers of a metal and strengthens them through work hardening.
