Siberian Regional Duma

Siberian Regional Duma

a counterrevolutionary organization created by Socialist Revolutionaries, Mensheviks, and Siberian oblastniki to oppose Soviet power. The extraordinary all-Siberian regional congress that met in Tomsk in December 1917 adopted a resolution to establish provisional government bodies in the form of the Siberian Regional Duma and a regional council responsible to the Duma. The regional council initiated anti-Soviet activity. In response, the Tomsk soviet of workers’ and soldiers’ deputies dispersed the duma on Jan. 26 (Feb. 8), 1918, on the orders of Tsentrosibir’ (Central Executive Committee of Siberian Soviets). After the creation of the Provisional Siberian Government, the members of the duma continued the struggle for power. The duma was finally abolished in September 1918 by the Ufa Directory.
