Respiratory Chromogens

a group of compounds in the plant cell that are capable of undergoing reversible oxidation. They are oxidized to form respiratory pigments, which, when reduced, form chromogens. According to V. I. Palladin’s theory, the respiratory chromogens and respiratory pigments form a single system and act as carriers of hydrogen to oxygen.
