(pir'i-fōrm'is mŭs'ĕl) Origin, margins of pelvic sacral foramina and greater sciatic notch of ilium; insertion, upper border of greater trochanter; action, rotates thigh laterally; nerve supply, nerve to piriformis (sciatic plexus).
Synonym(s): musculus piriformis [TA] , piriform muscle.
