He taught at Harvard (1938–40), was a group leader at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Radiation Laboratory (1941–45), then returned to Harvard (1946–80). He was awarded the 1952 Nobel Prize in physics (with Felix Bloch) for his work on the magnetic moments of atomic nuclei, then continued applying nuclear magnetic resonance to help develop the radio telescope. |
