Valka
a city, the administrative center of Valka Raion, Latvian SSR, located on the border between the Estonian and Latvian SSR’s. Valka borders on the town of Valga (in the Estonian SSR), and the two towns essentially form one city. Population, 6,400 (1969). There is a woodworking industry in the city. Valka was first mentioned in the 13th century; it has been a city since 1920.
