Siamozero

 

(also Samozero), a lake in the southern Karelian ASSR. Lake Siamozero covers an area of 266 sq km (including islands, 270 sq km). The average depth is 6.7 m, and the maximum depth is 24 m. The shorelines are indented. The water level varies by as much as 1.3 m. The lake freezes between late October and early December, and the ice breaks up in late April or in May. The Sian’ga River, a tributary of the Shuia River of the Lake Onega basin, originates at Lake Siamozero. There is fishing on the lake for whitefish, cisco, and pike perch. The lake is navigable and is used for floating timber.
