Soviet-Luxembourgian Agreements

Diplomatic relations were established between the USSR and Luxembourg on Aug. 26, 1935. Relations were suspended on July 15, 1940, owing to the occupation of Luxembourg by fascist Germany; they were restored on Oct. 13, 1942, with the Luxembourg government-in-exile.

The two countries concluded agreements on trade between the USSR and the Belgian-Luxembourg Economic Union (BLEU) (Feb. 18, 1948), on payments (Feb. 18, 1948), on economic, scientific, and technical cooperation between the USSR and BLEU (July 26, 1969), and on cultural cooperation (Dec. 17, 1969).

Within the framework of Benelux, the countries concluded a treaty on trade (July 14, 1971), a treaty on trade and payments (July 14, 1971), a naval agreement between the USSR and BLEU (Nov. 17, 1972), and an agreement on the development of economic, industrial, scientific, and technical cooperation between the USSR and BLEU (Nov. 19, 1974).
