Diplomatic relations were established between the USSR and Israel on May 18, 1948.
On Feb. 11, 1953, the Soviet government severed diplomatic relations because of the bombing of the Soviet mission. Relations were restored on July 15, 1953. On July 15, 1955, an agreement was reached according most-favored-nation status to the ships of the Soviet Union and Israel in the ports and territorial waters of both countries. On June 10, 1967, the Soviet Union severed diplomatic relations owing to Israeli aggression against the Arab states.
