Akstafa

 

(Agstev), a river in the Armenian SSR and Azerbaijan SSR. It flows into the Kura River from the right. The Akstafa is 121 km long, and its basin has an area of 2,500 sq km. It rises in the Pambakskii Range, flows in a narrow, forest-covered canyon which widens at the city of Dilizhan, then flows in a wider valley for the rest of its course. It is used to irrigate vineyards. Along the Akstafa are the cities of Kazakh and Idzhevan.

city in the Kazakh Raion of Azerbaijan SSR. Akstafa is located in the west of the republic, on the Tbilisi-Baku highway in the valley of the Kura River. It has a railroad station. In 1968 its population was 10,300. Industry includes cotton ginning and wine-making. The Karaiazskii sovkhoz for nutria breeding is located in the same raion.
