Sovetskaia Rossiia

 

(Soviet Russia), a Soviet newspaper that deals with general political topics. The newspaper has been published in Moscow since July 1, 1956. Until April 1966 it was the organ of the Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPSU for the RSFSR and of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR. Later it was published as a newspaper of the Central Committee of the CPSU; since Jan. 1, 1974, it has been an organ of the Central Committee of the CPSU, the Supreme Soviet, and the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR. It comes out six times a week.

Sovetskaia Rossiia informs its readers of all major events in the USSR and abroad and deals with life in the Russian Federation. It publishes materials on party building and government (Soviets) organization, socialist emulation, the struggle of urban and rural working people to fulfill successfully state plans and meet socialist obligations, and the development of the republic’s economy. The newspaper also devotes much attention to cultural life, literature, and art. It publishes sports news and other information as well. Circulation, 2.7 million (1975).


Sovetskaia Rossiia

 

a republic publishing house operated by the State Committee on Publishing, Printing, and the Book Trade of the RSFSR. It was founded in Moscow in May 1957 as a successor to Goskul’tprosvetizdat (the State Publishing House for Culture and Education).

Sovetskaia Rossiia issues mass political literature, popular science, and documentary literature, fiction, and imaginative literature, and works of representational art. Its publications include works on party, economic, and cultural development in the autonomous republics, krais, and oblasts of the RSFSR. Among the series in these fields are Novoe na ekonomicheskoi karte Rossii (New Developments on the Economic Map of Russia), Po zemle Rossiiskoi (Through the Russian Land), Sovetskii obraz zhizni (The Soviet Way of Life), Liudi Sovetskoi Rossii (The People of Soviet Russia), Poeticheskaia Rossiia (Poetic Russia), and Pisateli Sovetskoi Rossii (Writers of Soviet Russia).

In 1974, Sovetskaia Rossiia published 315 titles of books and pamphlets with a total run of 23,077,000 copies and 200,989,000 printer’s sheets. The publishing house also issues the magazines Teatral’naia zhizn’ (Theatrical Life), Kul’turno-prosvetitel’naiarabota (Cultural-educational Work), Sotsial’noe obespechenie (Social Security), and Sportivnaia zhizn’ Rossii (Sports Life in Russia).
