Sovetskaia Moldaviia

 

(Soviet Moldavia), a republic-wide Russian-language newspaper of the Moldavian SSR. Founded in 1925, the newspaper was originally published in Ukrainian—first as Chervonyi orach (The Red Tiller) and then, from 1930, as Sotsialistychna Moldaviia (Socialist Moldavia). It assumed its present name on Sept. 27, 1940. The newspaper is published in Kishinev six times a week. Circulation, 164,000 (1975). Sovetskaia Moldaviia was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1966.
