Sovetabad

(until 1972, the settlement of Karabagish), a city under oblast jurisdiction in Andizhan Oblast, Uzbek SSR. Located in the eastern part of the Fergana Valley. Railroad station (Khanabad) on the Andizhan-Dzhalal-Abad line. Population, 12,700 (1975). Sovetabad has plants for the production of concrete, gravel, tanning extracts, and knit fabrics. It also has a hydraulic-engineering technicum. As of 1978, the Andizhan Reservoir was under construction near Sovetabad, on the Karadar’ia River.
