Artik

 

a city (since 1945), the administrative center of Artik Raion, Armenian SSR. Located near the foot of the north-western slope of Mt. Aragats. The city has a railroad station on the Leninakan-Pemzashen branch line. Population, 12,300 (1967). Artik is a center for mining deposits of pink volcanic tuff, famous for its durability. There are also plants for the manufacture of vacuum electric furnaces, large tuff blocks, rugs, and hosiery.
