Walking Man Sign

A sign seen in chest films. The trachea, right and left upper and lower lobe bronchi are normally aligned vertically on a lateral chest radiograph. Posterior displacement of the left upper or lower lobe bronchus relative to the right bronchi has been fancifully likened to the appearance of legs of a man in midstride, and is typically due to a mass effect on the bronchi by a markedly enlarged left atrium. The walking man sign may also occur with subcarinal lymphadenopathy, mediastinal masses, left lower lobe volume loss, large hiatal hernias, and thoracolumbar scoliosis
