Resita Metallurgical Combine

the oldest enterprise of the Rumanian metallurgical industry. The first blast furnaces here were constructed in the 18th century. The combine is located in the city of Reşiƫa and uses iron ore from Ocna de Fier and coking coal from Anina, Ponor, Doman, and Secu.

Until the 1960’s, the combine was the largest producer of metal in Rumania. It specializes in the production of alloy steels and high-grade carbon steels. In 1973, such steels constituted 52 percent of the total steel output of the combine. The combine is also an important producer of rolled alloy steel, which made up 20 percent of its output in 1973. More than 120 grades of steel and about 70 rolled shapes are produced. The combine at the present time, after its reconstruction, includes a modern coke oven, a sintering plant, a blast furnace plant (the net volume of the furnaces is 700 m³), a steel-making plant, and a rolling mill. In 1973, the combine provided 12 percent of the metal produced in Rumania.
