South Sandwich Trench

a deep-water trench in the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean. It extends for about 1,200 km from the outer edge of the South Sandwich Island arc and has a maximum depth of 8,428 m. It is V-shaped: within the isobath of 6,000 m it is up to 100 km wide, while at the bottom it is only several kilometers wide.
