Shubun
(sho͞o`bo͞on`), fl. 1st half of 15th cent., Japanese painter and Zen Buddhist priest. He studied under JosetsuJosetsu, fl. 1425, Japanese landscape painter, teacher, and priest. His work shows the formal characteristics of Chinese suiboku-ga (black-and-white) painting. He worked in Kyoto, where Shubun was his pupil.
