Verkhnii Tagil State Regional Electric Power Plant

 

a condensation steam power plant near the settlement of Verkhnii Tagil, Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR. Its construction was begun in December 1951; the first unit was set in motion at the end of 1955; in December 1964 the plant attained the projected power of 1,600 megawatts (1,600,000 kilowatts). Cheliabinsk brown coal, mazut, and gas serve as fuel. Thirteen boiler units have been installed at the plant, with a steam capacity of 230 tons per hr each, five boilers of 640 tons per hr each, six turbines, with an output of 100 megawatts each at a steam pressure of 9 meganewtons per sq m (90 kilograms-force per sq m), and five turbines of 200 megawatts each at a steam pressure of 13 meganewtons per sq m (130 kilograms-force per sq m). The electrical energy generated by the plant is transmitted to the Ural United Energy System.
