Ufa Plateau

a plateau in the southern and central Urals, in the Bashkir ASSR and in Perm’ and Sverdlovsk oblasts, RSFSR. The Ufa Plateau, situated in the Ufa River basin, has average elevations of 350–450 m and a maximum elevation of 517 m. On the east it is bounded by an escarpment with elevations to 100 m, and on the west it slopes gently to the East European Plain. The plateau is composed mainly of limestones, dolomites, and sandstones. Karst landscapes are common and well developed. The Ufa, Iuriuzan’, and Ai rivers dissect the plateau deeply. The plateau is covered by broad-leaved and dark coniferous forests.
