Southern Indian Ocean Anticyclone

Southern Indian Ocean Anticyclone

(also Mauritius Basin anticyclone), a region of heightened atmospheric pressure above the Indian Ocean, south of the equator. The anticyclone appears on long-term average maps that show the distribution of pressure throughout the year; it is especially noticeable in the winter. The anticyclone is one of the centers of atmospheric activity in the subtropical belt and to some extent in the tropical belt of the southern hemisphere. [30–1157—4]
