Voennyi Sbornik

 

(Military Collection), a Russian monthly military journal published in St. Petersburg (Petrograd) from 1858 to 1917; founded on the initiative of D. A. Miliutin. In 1858 it was published by the Guards Corps staff with the participation of N. G. Chernyshevskii and N. N. Obruchev and criticized serf customs in the Russian army. In 1862 it was transformed into an organ of the Ministry of War.

Voennyi sbornik illuminated theoretical and practical problems of military affairs and the organization of the Russian army. It played a positive role in the preparation of bourgeois reforms in the army. From 1911 to 1916 it had a supplement, Voenno-istoricheskii sbornik (Military-Historical Collection). M. I. Dragomirov, M. I. Bogdanovich, A. N. Kuropatkin, and G, A. Leer were among the contributors to Voennyi sbornik.
