Vodgeo

 

(full name, All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Water Supply, Sewage, Hydrotechnical Construction, and Engineering Hydrogeology), an institute under the jurisdiction of Gossfroi (State Committee on Construction) of the USSR. Organized in Moscow in 1934. Since 1965 it has had a branch in Baku and divisions in Kharkov, Tashkent, and Cheliabinsk.

VODGEO conducts research on water treatment for industrial water supplies, demineralization of water, water supply networks, and circulating water supply systems; it develops methods for the design of purification plants and the mechanical, biochemical, and physicochemical purification of industrial waste water, and it is concerned with problems relating to the water supply and sewage systems. It is working on problems of the forecasting of water quality in reservoirs, the utilization of groundwater and its protection against pollution, and the like; it is involved in the development of hydraulic projects for industrial and municipal water management systems.
