Shrady, George Frederick

Shrady, George Frederick

(1837–1907) surgeon, medical journalist; born in New York City. He practiced at several hospitals in New York City, gaining some reputation as a plastic surgeon. He attended President Garfield when he was shot and President Grant in his last illness, and wrote about each experience. Perhaps his major influence on his profession was through his advocacy of reform of both doctors' education and medical practices while editor of the American Medical Times (1860–64) and the Medical Record (1866–1904).
