attitude retention system

attitude retention system

A system that returns the helicopter to a selected attitude after a disturbance. In this case, changes in the desired attitude can be effected usually through a four-way “beep” button or switch or by actuating a “force trim” on the cyclic stick. The attitude is set manually and the button or switch is released. Attitude retention may be a part of a stability augmentation system (SAS), or it may be the basic autopilot function, which permits hands-off flying. See also beep button.
