Location:Central Colorado. Accessible by US 24 and 285. Nearby cities/towns include Colorado Springs, Cripple Creek, and Denver.
Facilities:Visitor center, 53 campgrounds, 4 group camps, 3 cabins, dispersed camping, picnic sites, trails, scenic drives.
Activities:Camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, OHV riding, mountain climbing, rock climbing, skiing, snowmobiling.
Special Features:Pikes Peak, with highway to 14,000-foot summit; Sangre de Cristo Range, 12 peaks above 14,000 feet, including Mount Elbert (14,433 feet), the highest point in Colorado; Mount Champion Mine and Mill, developed in the late 1890s, was the major producer of ore in the Twin Lakes-Red Mountain area, and represents an interesting piece of Colorado's mining history. Because of this, it has been placed on the National Historic Register.
