Valdoni, Pietro

 

Born Feb. 22, 1900, in Trieste. Italian surgeon. Vice-president of the Medical Academy of Rome.

From 1924 to 1938, Valdoni was an assistant at the Rome Surgical Clinic and then a professor at the surgical clinics at the universities of Cagliari, Modena, and Florence. Since 1946 he has been the director of the Institute of Surgical Pathology at the University of Rome. His principal work was done in surgery of the abdominal and thoracic cavities, as well as the peripheral arteries. He performed an embolectomy of the pulmonary artery (the tenth case in the world that ended in recovery), an extensive pneumonectomy, and heart operations.
