Pigment Paper

a photocopying material used in the production of plates for gravure printing. It consists of a paper base coated with a gelatin-pigment layer 60-100 microns thick to which various additives are introduced. Pigment paper is sensitized in the printing plant (that is, it is given the ability to be hardened by the action of light). A photographic image is transferred to the paper, which is mounted on a plate cylinder, and the plate is produced by etching. Presensitized pigment papers that are ready for immediate copying have been developed, as have photocopying materials on synthetic substrates.
