Puke

Puke

Slang for a trader selling a position, usually a losing position, as in, "When in doubt, puke it out."

Puke

Informal; the sale of a losing position. This is done to avoid further losses and to free up money that may be used in a more profitable investment. While rebounds are possible, puking a security indicates the investor's acknowledgement that further losses are unacceptable and a price recovery is unlikely. Reaching this attitude is known as reaching the "puke point." Knowing whether one is correct in reaching the puke point at a certain time is the subject of much speculation and depends greatly on one's investment strategy. See also: Close a position.
