Pietro Romanelli


Romanelli, Pietro

 

Born Dec. 20, 1889, in Rome. Italian archaeologist. Member of the National Academy of Lincei (1950). Professor at the University of Rome (1926–60).

Romanelli conducted excavations in Anatolia in 1913, in Tri-politania from 1919 to 1923 (particularly in Leptis Magna), and in the Etruscan city of Tarquinia from 1930 to 1938. He also uncovered the remains of an ancient settlement on the Palatine Hill in Rome.
