Saur
Saur a mountain range in the Kazakh SSR and China, southeast of Lake Zaisan. The Saur Range has a length of 140 km and elevations to 3,816 m (Mount Muz Tau). It is composed of vol-canogenic deposits, shales, limestones, sandstones, and granitoids. At the crest there are mountain-meadow and bald-mountain landscapes. Glaciers cover 16.6 sq km. The northern slope has intermontane meadows and forests of Siberian larch and Schrenk’s spruce with a mixture of Siberian fir. Lower on the northern slope and on the southern slope there are steppes and semiarid regions. The Sau contains deposits of coal and oil shales. SAUR
