Theoretical Physics, Institute of
(full name, L. D. Landau Institute of Theoretical Physics), a scientific research institution at which research is conducted in the main areas of theoretical physics, such as the fundamental problems of solid-state and low-temperature physics, elementary particle theory, plasma theory, and the theory of laser radiation.
The institute was founded in 1965 at the Noginsk Scientific Center of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (Chernogolovka Post Office, Noginsk Raion, Moscow Oblast) and has a branch in Moscow. Among the institute’s scientists are the academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR A. B. Migdal and the corresponding members A. A. Abrikosov, L. P. Gor’kov, S. P. Novikov, and I. M. Khalatnikov.
