Souter, David H. Souter, David H. (Hackett)(1939– ) Supreme Court justice; born in Melrose, Mass. He spent seven years with the New Hampshire attorney general's office (1971–78) and rose through the state's judiciary (1978–90). After three months on a U.S. Court of Appeals (1990), he was appointed by President George Bush to the U.S. Supreme Court (1990). |
