Swarajists

the members of the Indian National Congress, or Congress Party, who in 1923 formed a separate party within the Congress Party. The Swarajists were led by M. Nehru and C. Das. Unlike M. K. Gandhi, who called for a boycott of the legislative bodies created in 1921 by the Montagu-Chelmsford Reform, the Swarajists held that parliament could be used as a tribune in the struggle for swaraj, or home rule, which they interpreted as dominion status for India. As revolutionary fervor grew in the period 1928–33 and as this mood found expression in the slogan of full independence for India, the party of the Swarajists disintegrated.
