Vakhtangivanovich Vronskii

(pseudonym of V. I. Nadiradze). Born Aug. 28 (Sept. 10), 1905, in Tbilisi. Soviet choreographer. People’s Artist of the USSR (1962). Member of the CPSU since 1940.

Upon graduating from the Tbilisi Ballet Studio in 1923, Vronskii became a soloist with opera and ballet theaters in Rostov-on-Don, Baku, Tashkent, and Saratov. He began his choreographic activities in 1932. From 1940 to 1954 he was a choreographer at the Odessa Theater of Opera and Ballet and from 1954 to 1959 at the Shevchenko Kiev Theater of Opera and Ballet. His productions include Rusinov’sOlesia (1947), Dankevich’s Lileia (1956), and Skorul’skii’s Forest Song (1958). Since 1960 Vronskii has been directing a Ukrainian ice ballet company. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals.
