Swanland

Swanland

a natural region in western Australia, occupying the southwestern margin of the West Australian Plateau. Subtropical mediterranean landforms predominate on plains, which occupy most of the region and change abruptly to the Darling Scarp toward the coastal lowland in the west. Annual precipitation decreases from 1,500 mm at the coast to 400 mm farther inland; 80 percent of precipitation falls between May and October.

The most important rivers in Swanland are the Swan and Blackwood. The flora is notable for its endemic species, mainly eucalyptus, as well as genera and families. The coast has heavily harvested eucalyptus forests, while the inland plains feature thin eucalyptus forests and mallee brushwood. Wheat is cultivated and sheep are bred in Swanland.
