Viacheslav Lebedinskii

Lebedinskii, Viacheslav Vasil’evich

Born Sept. 2 (14), 1888, in St. Petersburg; died Dec. 12, 1956, in Moscow. Soviet chemist; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1946). Honored Worker in Science and Technology of the RSFSR (1947). Student of L. Ia. Chugaev. Professor at Leningrad University (1920–35) and the Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Engineering (1939–52).

Lebedinskii derived new complex compounds of platinum, rhodium, iridium, rhenium, and indium. He also developed and introduced industrial methods of extracting rhodium from natural raw material. He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1946), the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and medals.
