Piakupur
a river in Tiumen’ Oblast, RSFSR, left fork of the Pur River (Kara Sea basin). The Piakupur is 542 km long and drains an area of 31,400 sq km. It originates from two sources—the Iangiagun and Niuchavotyiakha rivers on the Siberian Uvaly—and flows over a marshy wooded lowland. The Piakupur is fed primarily by snow. High water is from May through August. The mean flow rate is 290 cu m per sec. The river freezes in October, and the ice breaks up in late May or early June. The Piakupur abounds with fish. On the left bank of the river are the Komsomol’sk gas and Gubkin gas and oil fields of the Western Siberian oil and gas basin.
